High performance for high-tech projects: In the search for renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources researchers and scientists are treading new paths. Increasing efforts are being directed at harnessing the energy of the sun.
Example: A system of parabolic mirrors, equipped with a Stirling engine, uses the natural energy of the sun efficiently and safely. This is a particularly impressive example of the innovative technical potential of our materials. Thanks to its precision surface shape the membrane dish made of NIROSTA® achieves exceptionally high efficiency. The system consists of a parabolic concentrator that tracks the sun's path and focuses its radiation in a heat exchanger. The heat is transferred to the working gas of a Stirling engine which converts it into mechanical or electrical energy.
Other applications for NIROSTA® materials are in flue gas scrubbers in coal-fired power stations and waste incinerators. A special alloy withstands both, high operating temperatures and aggressive flue gas mixtures.
